Pottery Firing Service

Easy and Convenient  Kiln Firing with Mystery Creek Ceramics

We offer a full firing service out of our store at MADE Hamilton East. Whether you have a one-off clay event or would like to regularly fire with us, we have a system to suit your needs.

One off firing

If you’re looking to host an amazing clay event such as a birthday party, or wine and clay with your friends, Mystery Creek Ceramics can offer you the full service from supplying you with what you’ll need to create, to firing and glazing your pieces.

Pop into the store and we’ll help get you sorted with the necessary clay supplies.

Clay

Our recommendation would be to use Mac’s Mud Studio White clay, this is a high quality New Zealand clay that is white and easy to use. For small projects 2 kg per person will be perfect but if you have greater ambitions such as large vases or pedestal bowls then we recommend 3-4 kg per person.

Tools

We have pottery tool starter kits in store; grab one of these per three people in your group.

Colour

Kiwi underglazes are the perfect way to add colour to your pottery at home. These are locally made and we love them! You can either purchase the primary colours, black and white and custom blend all the colours of the rainbow, or we stock the entire range, so come in store and pick your favourite shades.

Once you have made your creations, painted them and they have dried a bit, wrap them up well in boxes with lids. For wrapping fragile pottery we recommend using towels, bubble wrap, dish cloths or other packaging material. These boxes can then be delivered to our store during our opening hours. We'll then transport your pieces to our studio for firing.

It is ideal for the pieces to be fired twice, once in a bisque firing, then glazed and fired for a glaze firing.
