Nerikomi Flat Dish
Each Mystery Creek Ceramics Nerikomi piece is handmade by me, Alex.
I create each pattern by carefully building up layers of coloured porcelain clay, which I stain myself, before slicing through the clay to reveal the design hidden inside. The clay is then rolled out and individually shaped by hand, meaning every piece has its own little quirks and personality.

I make these pieces from high-fired porcelain, creating functional objects designed to be used and enjoyed every day. Porcelain is a beautiful but delicate material, and because these pieces are fired at very high temperatures, they require a little more care than some other handmade ceramics. I recommend hand washing and handling your piece with lots of care.

Because every piece is handmade, no two are ever exactly the same. Slight variations in size, shape, colour, and pattern are part of what makes handmade ceramics special.
Porcelain also has a mind of its own. Sometimes a piece goes into the kiln perfectly round and comes out with a little warping or wonk. These small changes are part of the serendipity of working with this material.
