Pick Alex’s Brain - A Ceramic Community

We are replacing the ‘Pick Alex’s Brain’ service with a more community based approach. This service will be through the Mystery Creek Ceramics Patreon account and include the following things:

  • A monthly online video question and answer session with Alex
  • A forum to build a ceramic community where we can chat about all things clay
  • Access to exclusive behind-the-scenes Mystery Creek Ceramic content and blogs from Alex

This service will launch November the 1st 2023 and be $23 per month.

Alex absolutely loves answering ceramic questions, working with you to solve problems and supporting both experienced and budding potters. Regardless of your experience we hope you will join in and find a lovely place to share pottery knowledge with an enthusiastic and inspired community.

Learning Opportunities in 2024

In person workshops in the Mystery Creek Ceramic Studio

Anyone familiar with Mystery Creek Ceramics is likely well aware by now, but Alex loves coloured clay! Mystery Creek Ceramics was born from a love of coloured clay and coloured clay Nerikomi wares remain as our most popular ceramic range. Working with coloured clay is a unique, complex and long process but the beautiful results are well worth the time and skill. The best way to teach the processes involved in working with coloured clay is in our ceramic studio where we are surrounded by mountains of it from day-to-day.

In 2024 we're thrilled to be offering three weekend workshops on the topic of coloured clay. Each of these workshops will cover the entire process from staining the clay, to using it to build any creation you can dream of. As these workshops will be held at our Kihikihi based studio you'll also get a behind-the-scenes look at our making process and experience working in the same environment as our production team.

The workshops will be held on a Saturday and Sunday and limited to five participants so each person gets a full immersive hands-on experience of learning from Alex.

All materials will be provided as well as lunch on each workshop day.

The tentative dates for the workshops are:

  • March 2nd and 3rd
  • April 27th and 28th
  • November 9th and 10th

The workshop is valued at $1300 with all materials included.

If this is something you would like to be involved with or have queries about, please email us at shop@msyterycreekceramics.co.nz so we can let you know when the tickets go live.

Winter School

The quiet season in the studio provides our Mystery Creek Ceramics team an opportunity to offer an in-depth online winter school. This will be a three month block of teaching from the 27th of May to the 26th of June. This will be a chance to engage with Alex in longer format tutoring alongside ceramic product development, critique and more.

This will be run through the Mystery Creek Ceramics Patreon account. There will be a few options available - from one off courses to access to all the ceramic information in Alex’s head in the forms of videos, blog posts, and online chats.

If you'd like to be notified about this please email us at shop@mysterycreekceramics.co.nz or pop along to our Patreon account here.

We hope you can join us!
